Karim Rashid is a designer who has worked in fields of design including Interior, Industrial, and Visual Communications in over 35 countries. He has designed the interiors of hotels, bars, retail spaces, and homes. He also designs furniture and many types of technology. He has created products for companies such as Disney, TIMEX, Samsung, Ralph Lauren, Toyota, Unilever, Method Home, Artbox, and Audi, to name a few.
As well as designing, he lectures at colleges all over the United States. He has also been featured in publications such as Time, and NY Times.
Karim Rashid has won many coveted awards in the design world. He was named Interior Design Magazine’s annual design review winner in 2010, won an IF award for an Asus computer design in 2011, an IDSA industrial Design award in 2010, and a Best of the Year Award in 2010 for hus design for a small healthcare practice. In 2001 he won many awards from IDSA for furniture design. In 2005, he won the best products of the year award by Time magazine.
I really enjoy his designs for the colors and the abstract shapes he uses. He uses very bold colors usually in contrast with white or another very light color. The spaces he creates all function well and have a wonderful atmosphere and look to them. The furniture he creates has very curvy lines and contrasting colors as well.
At such a young age, Rashid has already had a significant impact on the design world. It will be exciting to see what he has in store. I think he will become a very influential designer in years to come.
